The creation of mankind
The Popol Vuh (the sacred book of the Quiché Maya) tells how the gods agreed to create the world so that man could have a place to live. Man’s mission was to worship and feed the gods (human hearts were nourishment for the gods).
The gods created the world first, then plants, animals and finally man.
The first man was made of clay, but was destroyed by a flood. The second man was made of wood, but the men of wood did not have a soul and could not revere the gods and were destroyed by a rainfall of burning resin.
On the third attempt, in 13.0.0.0.0 4 ahau 8 kumhú (to understand this, see the table (Translation of a Maya date in the Long Count calendar) of the Maya era (August 13, 3114BC), with the help of some animals, the gods discover corn and used it to fashion a man that worshipped the gods completing their fundamental aim on earth. The last creation was so successful that the men of corn continue living in accordance to the Maya faith.
